I was having a very interesting conversation with my mother the other days and we both have very different views on this next subject of mine

Have you ever noticed many people have an excuse for their bad behavior?
Like when someone treats you poorly and you call them on it they come back with “Well my mom (or dad) spoke to me that way” or “Well that’s how I was always treated”
We find it very easy to pass the buck onto another person or event rather then just taking responsibility for our own actions.

For years I used excuses like it’s my mom’s fault, and my dad and I was bullied and people were mean to me and family said nasty things and this that and the other.
But at some point you can’t use them as excuses anymore and I needed to sit back and say I have a choice, The choice to be a bitch or to not be a bitch.
It does not matter what happened in my past because that’s the past and I have to “Choose” to change the way I am and stop a cycle of bad behavior.

Do I think that people and events of your past shape who you become?
Absolutely!
But just because bad things happen to you does not mean you need to be doing bad things to other people.

And when you continue to use others as an excuse you will never really see the error of your own ways and you will never really change.
People have to want to change and it is possible to make changes you just need to go at it full force.
It don’t happen over night, I am still an asshole at times but I own it…I take responsibility for my actions because I did it not my family or my friends or the bad things that happened in my past.
Only me, because I choose to be like that.

It’s gonna take me awhile but I strive everyday to be a better person…a kinder person.
Someone who inspires, who makes someone smile, someone who my child will be proud to call mom and will learn how to become a good person themselves.
